About VHREC
Who We Are
The Venomous Herpetology Research & Education Collective (VHREC) is a global network of scientists, educators, conservationists, medical professionals, field researchers, environmental experts, and reptile enthusiasts united by a shared passion: understanding and protecting venomous reptiles. Founded by Shae Stewart, VHREC brings together diverse perspectives to create meaningful change at the crossroads of science, conservation, and education.
Venomous reptiles are often feared and misunderstood, yet they play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. At VHREC, we bridge the gap between people and these remarkable species through rigorous research, accessible education, and hands-on conservation initiatives. Our goal is to protect not just the reptiles themselves, but the habitats and communities that rely on them.
Through high-quality field and laboratory studies, we explore the biology, ecology, and conservation needs of venomous reptiles, generating knowledge that informs both public safety and species protection. But science alone is not enough. We are equally committed to turning that knowledge into action—through community programs, outreach initiatives, and educational resources that empower students, professionals, and enthusiasts alike to become stewards of wildlife.
Conservation is at the heart of everything we do. By working with land managers, policymakers, and local communities, we implement strategies that protect habitats, reduce human-wildlife conflict, and ensure that these species endure for generations. VHREC is more than a collection of experts—it is a collective fueled by curiosity, care, and the belief that together, we can make a difference.
At VHREC, we believe knowledge is the key to coexistence. We envision a world where venomous reptiles are celebrated not as threats, but as vital contributors to biodiversity—symbols of resilience, balance, and the wonder of the natural world.
Our Mission
VHREC is dedicated to advancing the scientific study of venomous reptiles, delivering public education that fosters awareness and respect, and driving conservation initiatives that protect both reptiles and their ecosystems. Our mission is to build a future where people and venomous reptiles can coexist safely through knowledge, collaboration, and responsible stewardship.

Our Values
Our values are built on scientific integrity, respect for wildlife, safe coexistence between people and reptiles, and a deep commitment to ecosystem stewardship. We believe that knowledge, responsibility, and collaboration are essential to protecting venomous reptiles and the environments they depend on, while fostering safer, more sustainable relationships between humans and nature.

Join Us in Our Mission
